Le Fort National a été construit en 1689 par l’ingénieur Siméon Garangeau d’après les plans de Vauban et sur les ordres du Roi Louis XIV, en même temps que les remparts de Saint-Malo étaient renforcés.
Bastion avancé de la cité corsaire, il s’inscrit dans un ligne de fortifications qui protégeaient Saint-Malo des incursions anglaises.

The National Fort was built in 1689 by the engineer Siméon Garangeau according to the plans of Vauban and on orders of King Louis XIV, at the same time as the ramparts of Saint-Malo were reinforced.
Advanced bastion of the "Corsair City," it is part of a line of fortifications that protected Saint-Malo from English incursions.
