En 1296 un voyageur chinois, Tcheou Ta-Kouan; remonte le Mékong, traverse le Grand Lac (Tonlé Sap) et parvient à Angkor Thom la capitale du royaume Khmer. Il emprunte l ’allée des Géants et est impressionné par la muraille qui ceint la ville et par les cinq grandes portes qui permettent d’y accéder.

In 1296 a Chinese traveler, Tcheou Ta-Kouan, goes up the Mekong, crosses the Great Lake (Tonlé Sap) and reaches Angkor Thom the capital of the Khmer kingdom. He walks down the Alley of the Giants and is impressed by the wall that surrounds the city and by the five large doors that allow access.
