"Tan" en breton, signifie feu. Avant l'époque des phares modernes ce sont ces tours sur lesquelles chaque soir on allumait un feu qui servaient de signal aux navires.

"Tan" in Breton means fire. Before the time of the modern lighthouses, these are the towers on which every evening a fire was lit, which served as a signal to the ships.
