Les puissantes murailles du Nijo-Jo, résidence officielle du Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu (1543-1616). Alors que l’Empereur régnait seulement sur son palais, les shoguns, puissants chefs militaires, régnaient sur le Japon tout entier.
Aujourd’hui encore, quand on visite les appartements d’Ieyasu, le parquet de bois « chante » sous nos pas (les Japonais croient reconnaitre dans ce bruit musical le chant du rossignol) : c’est ainsi qu’Ieyasu, qui craignait un assassinat contre lui, était alerté dans son sommeil de toute approche imprévue…

The powerful walls of the Nijo-Jo, the official residence of the Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu (1543-1616). While the Emperor reigned only over his palace, the shoguns, powerful military leaders, reigned all over Japan.
Even today, when we visit the apartments of Ieyasu, the wooden floor «sings» under our feet (the Japanese believe to recognize in this musical noise the song of the nightingale): this is how Ieyasu, who feared an assassination against him, was alerted in his sleep to any unexpected approach…
