Les travaux se déroulent dans des conditions dantesques qu’il serait trop long de raconter ici. Imaginez simplement que vous creusez des trous dans le gneiss au milieu de l’océan sur un rocher de 105 m2 (à basse eau) pendant qu’un coéquipier guette les vagues qui pourraient vous emporter. Un canot reste en permanence à proximité pour vous récupérer si par malheur vous étiez jeté à la mer.
Après bien des difficultés et la perte d’un homme la construction du phare est achevée et la mise en service a lieu le 30 Aout 1881.

The work is taking place in Dantesque conditions that would take too long to tell here. Just imagine digging holes in the gneiss in the middle of the ocean on a 105 m2 rock (low water) while a teammate watches for waves that could take you away. A canoe is always nearby to pick you up if you were thrown into the sea.
After many difficulties and the loss of a man the construction of the lighthouse is completed and the light is turned on on 30 August 1881.
