Le château Nijo-jo a été construit en 1603 pour être la résidence du premier shogun de la période Edo (1603-1867), Tokugawa leyasu (1543-1616). Il a ensuite été complété par son petit-fils, le célèbre Iemitsu Tokagawa. Le puissant clan Tokugawa,a régné sur le Japon pendant plus de 260 ans.

Nijo-jo Castle was built in 1603 to be the residence of the first shogun of the Edo period (1603-1867), Tokugawa Leyasu (1543-1616). It was then completed by his grandson, the famous Iemitsu Tokagawa. The powerful Tokugawa clan, ruled Japan for more than 260 years.
