For two weeks, my wife and I fostered a rescued greyhound. He is a three year old brindle and we got him on Saturday December 2, after he had endured a long truck ride from Melbourne, Florida. Needless to say, since he was right off the racetrack he has no idea what life is like in a home. We had to gradually introduce him to the many things that he is not used to. Racing greyhounds are used to spending nearly all of their day in a kennel – taken out to run on the track, relieve themselves and eat. Once adjusted to home life, however, they become loyal, loving companions and they truly realize that they have been rescued.

I have put together a PAD (Photos-a-day) project on him for 14 days to share our experiences.

After the two weeks he will be with his new family. Until then, we gave him lots of love and encouragement and welcome him with open arms.

WOW!! You guys have done a terrific job in transitioning him from a life of work to a life of fun. I know how hard this was for you - but you opened not only your home but your hearts - you let him in and gave him lots of love and reassurance. Your pictures are such a fantastic documentary of your journey and time together with him, and we can just feel the love you shared and the trust he developed. Colonial Greyhound Adoption is so appreciative for the wonderful foster home you have provided to Our Cuss N Go for us. His new family is very excited about having him come home this Sat. Greyhounds are lovely dogs, aren't they? Good for you for fostering him during this transition. Have you had any troubles? I've heard of people putting masking tape on windows at the dog's eye level--many have never lived indoors and would charge right through the glass otherwise.

Too often we are enveloped with a sea of greyhounds here at the Melbourne Greyhound track. We rarely have time to stop and smell the roses. You have offered us that "smell of the rose" by your loving care of "Our Cuss N Go" and we thank you. He represents the 5,000th greyhound we have transitioned into adoption, from this track in the last 10 years. Having a minimally fractured hock makes him special.
