While walking around Quintana this morning I first heard, then saw this Northern Waterthrush foraging along a ditch. In my efforts to get a photo of him I accidently flushed him into the nearby bushes and thought that was the end of my time with the bird. As luck would have it, the bird quickly came back out to the edge of the brush. I watched for a few minutes as it walked along the branches but there was always something in the way. I had pretty much given up hope on getting a photo when the bird reached a small opening and gave me this wild pose about half a second before it flew off out of sight. I love the way that they seem to be incapable of stopping their tail-pumping.
