During a recent visit to Brazos Bend State Park I spent some time photographing some American Coots as they fed on aquatic vegetation and noticed something I don’t recall having ever noticed before. When I think of coots, I usually think of their crazy lobed feet but in this case, I was surprised by the teeth-like projections in the coot’s mouth. It just goes to show that we can still learn from the familiar.
