If I had to think of the bird that generates the least amount of excitement of all the birds in SE Texas I would have to guess that it is the American Coot. In fact, I have heard on numerous occasions that the coots are constantly getting in the way of my photo. I have to admit that there have been occasions when I have had similar thoughts.

During a recent trip to Anahuac NWR I was trying to get some nice photos of the ducks but they just weren’t cooperating so I decided to see if I could get an interesting photo of the coots that were all around me. The funny thing is, as soon as I wanted to get a photo of them, they pretty much disappeared into the reeds. I ended up waiting several minutes before these two worked their way back into the open water. It was fun watching them dip down ang grab vegetation and eat it and I eventually got some shots I liked.
