After having a fantastic morning of birding in the Lower Rio Grande Valley we decided to spend the afternoon at Falcon State Park. I always thoroughly enjoy the park and this visit was no exception but for me the highlight of the visit was just as the sun was setting. We were headed out of the park when we spotted this Pyrrhuloxia sitting up on a fantastic perch. I was sure the bird wouldn’t stick around for a photo but as luck would have it, he stayed for several. They might not be as brightly colored as cardinals but I think they are every bit as beautiful.
