Cardinalis sinuatus
Pyrrhuloxia is one of those birds that is just plain neat so it is no surprise that it is a frequently requested species when I take people birding in the parts of the country where they can be found. This one was from our recent trip to west Texas and was near the top of the target list for my guest. I felt confident that we would get the bird but we were both especially pleased when this one flew up on a nearby ocotillo in beautiful light with a fruit in its beak! He didn’t stay long but it was enough to get a few nice shots. This one didn’t even need to be cropped!
