This Purple Gallinule took me by surprise during our visit to Cano Negro (northern Costa Rica) last month. I had stopped the car to photograph some Groove-billed Anis on the side of the road and looked down to find this! This photo isn’t cropped. It’s pretty lucky that the composition came out in a way that I actually liked. Aren’t those feet crazy!?
