One of the few specific bird requests made going into our recent Costa Rica trip was a puffbird so it was quite exciting to encounter these two while exploring the trails at Carara National Park. As it turns out we found them just in time; shortly after this photo was taken it started raining and we headed back to the car for shelter. It was almost as if we were meant to see them.
