We found this Russet-naped Wood-Rail (formerly Gray-necked Wood-Rail) in the Cano Negro area of Costa Rica earlier this month. This bird was pecking around in a citrus orchard and didn’t wait around too long for us to take photos but it did give us the best photo opportunity of this species for the trip. Living up to its “wood rail” name it retreated into the orchard when it decided we were paying just a little too much attention to it.
We will be doing this trip again next spring, if you think you might be interested more information is available here: www.texastargetbirds.com/group-photo-trips/2018-costa-ric...
