Falco columbarius

While driving through High Island this afternoon we noticed this Merlin sitting on a power line. I don’t recall ever having seen one in August before so I took a peek at my Upper Texas Coast checklist and it lists Merlin as “very rare” for August. It might be worth keeping an eye out for if you are in the area.
