Malacoptila panamensis
Our second day in Costa Rica was another fantastic one. Again more birds than we knew what to do with and again difficult to choose a favorite. Some of the species seen included Ruddy Ground-Dove, White-whiskered Puffbird, four species of trogon, Scrub Euphonia, Chestnut-backed Antbird, Black-faced Antthrush, Gray-headed Tanager, three species of woodcreeper, Three species of kingfisher, Mangrove Yellow Warbler, Panama Flycatcher and Bare-throated Tiger-Heron just to name a few. One interesting moment was when we observed a young Reddish Egret that got the Costa Ricans very excited. My friend Jorge was thrilled since this was only the second one he had ever seen. I decided to share this photo of the White-whiskered Puffbird today. It was very accomodating and sat out in the open for a good 10 minutes so we could all get plenty of photos. Tomorrow we head up to Monteverde, hope the Internet is working up there.
