Julio Martinez with the M-60

Julio Martinez carrying the M-60 machinegun on a recon patrol. Feb. '68. Julio is a veteran of Alpha Co. and Recon. He was a brave and exceptional soldier. He received a Bronze Star Medal which was well-deserved. Julio's M-60 and his skill in using it was highly respected and relied upon by all of us. He is still an exceptional guy and I'm proud to be his comrade.

I'm only a spouse - anybody remember Sgt. Branan? Field Medic, etc.

Dave, Ralph Arvizu is my VFW Post Commander for Post 6310, Tolleson, Arizona and also is my best friend and brother. Ralph was with 34th Armor in Vietnam and received two purple hearts. Our Post, under the leadership of our Commander has been an All American three years in a row. We are also hosting the VFW National Convention in Phoenix for 2009.

Thank you Dave for all of these memories--after 42 years! I was in C Co 2nd Bn 34th Armor. We were constantly in the field. Our Area of Operations was the Iron Triangle, Highway 13 (Bloody 13), Tay Ninh, Loc Ninh, An Loc, Dau Tieng and many many more that I do not recall. My 2/34th Armor supported you guys (Big Red One) and also the 25th Division from Cu Chi about 99% of my tour in Vietnam. I was the driver of my tank--Charlie 33 (C-33). It was destroyed on 1 March 1967 during Operation Junction City near a hamlet by the name of Dau Tieng. The road we were securing was Route 239. My tank Commander (Sgt. Hill, Rest his soul) was KIA, a Medic (PFC Byers) that was tending Sgt. Hill also was (burned) KIA; the gunner Carson was burned all over his body and was immediately evacuated to a burn unit in Japan. I do not know what happened to him. So I think I'm the only one that survived. You could call me a walking dead.
That picture of that tank that you posted sure brought back the memories. I would do it again!

From this day to the ending of the world.
But we in it shall be remembered,---
we few, we happy few, we band of brothers.
For he today that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my Brother.
