Downed chopper

On my first operation our battalion commander's observation helicopter was shot down when it got too close to a firefight. The pilot was able to crash-land and he and LTC Collins both suffered minor injuries. This is a CH-47 Chinook retrieving the damaged chopper.

I was there when the commander was shot down. He was a great man and officer.

This reminds me of my second tour. I came back last of May tip the 173rd AHC where I may have carried y'all, either out or,better yet, brought y'all back in.
