There was a heavy police presence and the use of glass or razor wire on walls and fences throughout San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica. While my wife and I were walking down the sidewalk a local gentleman stopped us and, although he didn't speak English, indicated that I should carry my camera around my neck, not over my shoulder, for safety.
