On the way from Northern California up through Southeastern Oregon, we passed mile after mile of scenes like this - thousands of acres of forest that have burned in wildfires in the last few years. At the same time, the Bootleg Fire in Oregon and Dixie Fire in Northern California are still adding to the damages. During our second day's drive, the air was thick with haze and smoke from the Bootleg Fire until we got near the Columbia River Gorge, and some of it got that far later that day, with more coming in the days to follow.
In this area, traffic was delayed while workers cut down and cleared burned trees alongside the road.
