Mendocino Savings Bank

Mendocino's most iconic building, which is visible from all over town. Since 1977 it has been the Mendocino Savings Bank, but for decades before that, going back to the start of construction in the 1850s, was Mendocino (Masonic) Lodge #179. The statue on top of the building, carved from native redwood, is symbolic in Masonic lore. Called "Time and the Maiden", it represents the Masonic emblem, the broken pillar, the maiden beside it, with a sprig in her hand, and old father Time, toying with her hair. Unfortunately, it makes a great landing spot for the also iconic crows in the area. The building and statue just underwent renovation in 2014.
