The OR Nursing Course was a 16-week post-graduate Nursing specialty course. All students had to have at least a BSN to qualify for the course. It was taught at only 3 locations - MAMC, BAMC and WBAMC (El Paso). All of the Army nurses who wanted to specialize in OR had to go through this course first, whether they had experience in the civilian world, or as an OR Technician, or whatever. Although there was variability in the lesson plans from site to site, the three Course Directors met at least a couple of times a year to discuss and plan curriculum and share materials, in order to standardize as much as possible.
This was actually the longest tour of my career, at a little over 4 years.
