Ford Model T vehicles were wonderfully versatile and inventors of the era adapted them to many uses besides simply driving down the road. There were kits developed to convert them to use as tractors, railcars, generating stations and snow vehicles, among others. A patent was granted to Virgil White of New Hampshire in 1917 for conversion of the Model T to a "snowmobile", which was the first use of a now-common word.
