Sam it’s been 40 years today that you left us in that South Vietnam jungle. Your brave actions probably saved many of us other Black Lion brothers from getting hurt. After fruitless searches over the years I have found your mother and brother, Johnny, just within the last week. I also have found our friend Ron Moreno and we have had a 6 hour meeting, with you being the main topic of our reminiscing. This memorial is long overdue and to find the proper words is very difficult, to honor you, as you should be. Sam you gave the ultimate sacrifice for your country and all Americans and you will never be forgotten by so many.

Rest In Peace

From time to time I go online and take a look at websites containing info about Lai Khe and this is the first time I've seen this one. I was there from Feb 67 to Mar 68 with Co B Medical Battalion and will never forget Sam as he was the first KIA that I processed through our facility and I had to bag his personal belongings before sending him on to Graves Registration. Sadly he was not the last (that I saw) who fell in service to his country...

Hello,
Maybe this isn't the way to do.
My name is Jurgen Wijnands and I live in the Netherlands and im 31 years old.
Im very interested in WW2 and the Vietnam war. I hope you all who fought in Vietnam will get the same regrets as the veterans in ww2 do.
Here in the Netherlands is a ww2 cementry where the American soldier are buried who lost their lives in the war. Í have here adopted 3 graves of soldiers. The adoption program here means that you have to bring the soldier flowers on special days. I'll do that on memorial day, Christmas birthday and his date of death. All those 3 soldier served in the 1st inf div 16th reg.

Greatings jurgen wijnands.

What a brave and courageous man, who is just a teenager. What a void to a Nation that needs more men like this to serve as examples to youth on what it means to be selfless and serve others. His family must be so proud of him, and my prayers are for he, his borthers, and his family.

He was and obviously still is a Blessing to those that knew him. His sacrificed like so many others is appreciated. He was so young and though his death was too soon, the impact he made in the hearts of the men he served with will never be forgotten. I thank him for his service and for his sacrifice.

A fitting and heart-felt tribute as can be rendered only by someone who was there ... it's a haunting image for some reason ... impactful in his repose yet with only a scant days or weeks to live. Wars should be fought by old men (if at all) ...

Oh, I am crying. He looks like such a fine young man and to die so young. My heart and my thanks go out to him and his family. I'm going to honor him with my vote. God bless all those that fought in Viet Nam. They were truly not appreciated by all but I never lost faith in any of you that served.
