Inside the fortress section are the ruins of the barracks. There was (and still is) running water in the entire Alhambra, flowing from the mountains above. There were also indoor toilets in the barracks rooms. This was done in the 1100's! The roofs and upper walls of the barracks rooms were made of wood and are no longer present.
