Five Witnesses Tell Their Stories:
President Lincoln's Guest in the Box that Night - Major Rathbone
The Actress That Identified Wilkes-Booth as he ran past her out of the building - Laura Keene
The Surgeon who immediately attended Lincoln and remained with him until death - Dr. Charles Leale
A Security agent who tried to catch Booth as he fled the theater on horseback
A Confederate soldier who traveled for a short time with the incogneto assassins
The Union General who uncovered the details of the conspiracy, tried, and executed the guilty - Lt. Col. EJ Conger
What a rare priviledge to be here and listen to the accounts of the witnesses to this terrible event, but to get a true sense of the days, to hear how the common people were jubilant the week prior because the surrender at Appomattox had just happened.
How the assassination affected not only the civilians, but how Soldiers and Freedmen cried like babies in public. Prior to the show, the security guard had been outside with us.
Remaining in character the entire time, he spoke for about an hour; answering questions and talking about events before, during, and after Lincoln's assassination.
April 14th Good Friday. We were there
