Thimbleberries are shallower, flatter, and wider than raspberries. They are extremely soft and delicate, often dissolving or falling apart at a touch. When you pull the fruit off, the remaining core leaves a hollow, thimble-like shape (which gives the plant its name).
Thimbleberry jam is a rare, highly prized specialty spread made from wild-harvested, uncultivated thimbleberries, that has a “more raspberry than raspberry” flavour and is a much sought after specialty shop item.
