A second-growth forest is a forest that has regenerated after the original forest was significantly disturbed or harvested by humans or natural events. These forests differ from old-growth forests in structure, often characterized by younger, smaller, and more densely packed trees with a less diverse understory. While they lack the complexity of old-growth forests, second-growth forests are valuable ecosystems that contribute to biodiversity, act as carbon sinks, and have different economic and social values. ~ Wikipedia
