I'm not sure what this plant is (there is a small image of the whole bush below). I talked with the property owner, and she said it was a Lipstick plant, also known as a Salvia, but not sure what variety. I've searched for images of it and can't find any that match the photos I took...close, but no winner.
She did say it usually bloomed late summer or early fall, but because of the hot, dry weather on Vancouver Island this year its bloom was very small. Then came the cooler weather with some rain, and the plant exploded with blooms in November.
If anyone can identify this plant, I'd appreciate a note about it in the comments.
IDENTIFIED: Salvia 'Hot Lips' (Baby Sage)
