The White Cabbage Butterfly is an invasive species in Canada. It was accidentally introduced to Quebec in the 1860s and has since spread across North America. The caterpillar stage of the butterfly are considered pests, as they feed on various cultivated and native plants in the cabbage family.
Females lay most of their eggs in the first week of their adult life, and are capable of laying up to 400 eggs. They die after about three weeks as a butterfly. Each year between spring and autumn, there are between three and five generations of white cabbage butterfly.
