Liatris, commonly known as Gayfeather or Blazing Star, is not naturally occurring on Vancouver Island, however it is cultivated here as a garden plant. There are several differ varieties of this plant, L. spicata being the most common garden species.
A bonus for gardeners (and photographers): Liatris produces abundant nectar that is attractive to both bees and hummingbirds, and is a popular choice for pollinator gardens. ~ The Spruce
