When traveling the roads of Vancouver Island, you must always be aware of possible obstacles. On a straight level road, this dead Douglas Fir fell just 100 feet in front of us. Easy to remove with a few axe whacks. A driver stopped and helped drag the tree off the road. Most folks that travel these roads carry a chain saw just for this reason. During the fall storms, large trees, 2 feet thick and larger, are quickly and safely removed from public roads by locals. Yes, Vancouver Island is beautiful but can be remote and dangerous.
