Trumpet Honeysuckle

Central Vancouver Island

Several honeysuckle species, both native and non-native, can be found on Vancouver Island. Native options include Orange Honeysuckle (Lonicera ciliosa) and Hairy Honeysuckle (Lonicera hispidula). Non-native options include various forms of Japanese Honeysuckle (Lonicera japonica) and others.

Native Honeysuckle on Vancouver Island:

Orange Honeysuckle (Lonicera ciliosa, Trumpet Honeysuckle): A deciduous vine with fragrant, trumpet-shaped, coral-orange flowers that bloom from late spring to mid-summer. It attracts hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies. ~ Native Plants PNW

Hairy Honeysuckle (Lonicera hispidula): A more sprawling, shrubby vine, often found in drier habitats. It features purple flowers tinged with yellow and is known for its stiff bristles on the stems. ~ Native Plants PNW

Black Twinberry (Lonicera involucrata):
A common shrub, not a vine, that grows in moist habitats near streams and wetlands ~
