There was no Billy Goat Gruff under this bridge on the Nanaimo River, but there was a scene worth exploring. While we're familiar with the purpose of the bridges on our byways, we don't often explore the world beneath them. Animals find shelter under the bridges, people create art there, on hot summer days fish rest in their shady pools, birds raise their young there, people picnic along the rivers' shore and fisherman use the access they provide as pathways to their favourite fishing grounds. Not only does the bridge cross a river, supports another world beneath it.
