This section of The Inland Island Highway, was used for a part of one of the first Tom Cruise, Mission Impossible movies. The hill (seen here) was used in one of the aircraft scenes.
Just north of Buckley Bay, this section of road was opened from Mud Bay to Courtney in 1999.
Now protected by high fences on both sides to keep elk and deer off the road, it is reasonably safe from wildlife, with beautiful, and breath-taking views.
Coming down the hill (going south) you can see parts of the inland waterway between Vancouver Island and the Mainland and Denman and Hornby Islands with an occasional sighting of the all electric BC ferry, 'Marilyn Bell I', that travels from Buckley Bay to Denman Island.
