Picking time on Vancouver Island can be noted by several things. Getting close to October 1st; first rain of the fall; and the noise of flocking birds that surround the vineyards. European Starlings seem to be the worst as they flock in the hundreds. When they visit the vineyard you must be ready to pick.
Most vineyards have bird netting that must be taken down or wrapped up, which is done right before harvest. Enjoy your wine, the farmer works hard to get it to you, before it is even picked.
