Have you ever tried to harvest sunflower seeds only to find the shells were all empty? Sunflowers need pollination to produce viable seeds, so if you have few bees and other pollinators in your area, you may find many or all of the shells on your sunflower are empty. So make sure you’re doing everything you can to attract them to your garden with flowers, flowering shrubs and habitats that support them, and make sure you’ve got more than one mature sunflower. ~ Bee and Basil
