A Hummingbird Favourite
Vancouver Island, BC
Crocosmia (kro-KOS-mee-ah) is from the iris family and is native to the South African grasslands. The plant can be identified by its sword-shape foliage and multiple, showy flowers growing on the spikes. They can grow to be 3ft tall.
The name Crocosmia comes from the Greek words krokos (saffron) and osme (scent). This is a reference to the strong, recognizable saffron scent that is released when the dried flowers are placed in hot water. ~ https://www.funnyhowflowersdothat.co.uk
