There are apparently more than 2700 species of bromeliads. This one is commonly known as a Pineapple Bromeliad. Epiphytic bromeliads (growing on other plants or trees), have the ability to absorb nutrients and moisture from the atmosphere, so they are sometimes called 'air plants'.
