Ring Neck Pheasant

Richards Trail

One morning when I was taking out the dogs I heard some weird calls coming from the forest. Soon the calls were coming from several different locations. I never heard anything like it before and Biscuit
who usually barks was just sitting with her head tilted to one side. Later that same day on a walk with Oreo, she scared one of these out of the brush just feet away from me. After I picked up my heart from the ground I went inside to identify this bird. The calls I heard in the morning were from the male Ring Neck Pheasant. Now I was on a mission, after eluding me for days I finally saw one in the open and I was armed. I managed a few shots off before he ducked for cover.
