Alas, I had been shooting flowers (and needed the DoF) just before she surprised me with at least 2 chicks. If I had it opened up to f/8 or larger I would've had enough shutter speed to have not had half a dozen out of focus shots in full battle mode... -Kerry

Really good shot of the Sooty; I have been too close as well and have seen the wrath of mother come at me. Good to hear she had chicks, you wonder with all this cooler weather how they fair.
