Shotgun House

New Orleans

Common in the southern states, shotgun houses were built to minimize the taxable amount of property frontage. The houses are typically less than 12 feet wide, and the rooms from from front to back, often without obstructing walls. Hence, the ability to shoot a shotgun through the front door, and not hit anything except the back door.

now why would someone want to shoot a back door? they are harmless. :) Nice building, well decorated. we had a similar period here, called war house, built during the war, very small but much needed at time. V
