Male Common Merganser Fishing

As you move towards these fellows, they slowly swim away.
Fern and I were chatting with Carl and Racine at Art Man Park
when this one dived under the water.
Thinking he couldn't see me, I ran as close to the water
as I could and caught him as he came up. Then he swam away.
I am thinking about that 800mm lens
but would have to sell the car first. ;)

Canon EOS 5D ,Canon 70-200mm f4L IS USM
1/500s f/16.0 at 200.0mm iso400 full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

Exceptional capture. I've been trying for weeks with a 500mm lens and I couldn't begin to capture a shot half as good as that! Beautifully done. - Ed Maxfield

One small detraction: smudge (on sensor?) in the water above the bird's head.

What an amazing shot! So sharp, even at that distance, and I love the way the light glints off the fish's back. Brilliant!

Well done, where did you shoot this image, now you should get yourself a 800MM with a 1.4 and go out with Mike Y.. JV
