I like the softness of the petals with the soft white on either side and the darker back ground. And the crisp sharp stamen. It all works for me-

The technition in me agrees with you 100%. The artist in me steps back a bit, squints one eye and sees the sweeping curves, diagonal lines and bright areas of colour that only happen at this angle. I went back today to try and increase the DOF but failed to make an improvement. James T.

Although the stamens and stem are sharp and attractive, the angle at which you took this image makes almost every petal severely out of focus. A shot from beneath looking up into the flower, or from atop looking down, or at least at somewhat of an angle with relation to the petals would, I think, have been much more effective. Just a thought.
