Point taken. The camera was moved as I was reframing on the fly. 'Taint easy to keep a horizontally (and vertically) moving subject in a vertical frame! LOL! As you can see, the camera went up and to the left. ;) ~ Lonnit

Fun action shot and the tilt and pp look fine to me too but I think a little faster shutter or a steadier hand would have still given you the blurry movement of the diver, but made a bit of the foreground and/or background sharper so it doesn't look like a mistake was made. :-) CJ.

Thanks, Penny. Looks like you're in the minority with me! LOL! ~ Lonnit

I really like this. The blur is perfect with the tilt.

Thank you, TV. :) ~ Lonnit

Forget the rule of thirds because this has much more compositional interest than that simple, static "rule". I enjoy the lines ricocheting around the frame and interacting with it, which balance and disburse interest from the central subject. Effectively precise framing even as a spontaneous capture. Nicely done. -tv

My goodness, Daniel, you have blown me away! I cannot believe you recall the image, let alone the title of it! I'm speechless! Thank you. Thank you for remembering. That image appeared in PhotoGraphic magazine as one of their monthly winners, so it holds a special place in my heart. ~ Lonnit

I am preoccupied by the plagiarized title, Lonnit: it does, IMO, belong to another picture--by you too, I admit--shot years ago: of a taxi driving in rain. It was the first image I remember you by (and one I'd love to see again: maybe in exhibition?). -- db.

Hey, her ass is in focus! LOL! And doesn't camera shake count as motion? Who said it had to be the subject in motion. LOL! ;) But seriously, you can see the blur in the legs and feet, and of course the splash as well. Eh, well, at least someone on Flickr commented that they love it! LOL! ~ Lonnit

Oh Lonnit, I always love your work so much, but I must say this looks like something my neighbor child did with a cardboard Kodak. I was hoping to see at least 'something' in focus. To me this isn't movement but camera shake.

Ah, summer fun in the pool well captured. I just wish it was warm enough here to do the same as this carefree young person.

Thanks for commenting, guys. I happen to absolutely love this shot and was so excited about it! I'm disappointed you don't care for it, Iso. Taste, of course, is always an individual thing and I do appreciate your honesty in stating your feelings on it. :) The blur is all natural, of course, being that it was hand-held at 1/50th of a sec, so all that strip-e-ness that looks like pencil sketch lines is the actual photograph, not an effect. As for filters, I did use the Nik Bleach Bypass filter at a reduced opacity and changed the blend mode to maybe soft light.

Here's what I love about the image:

The image has not been cropped, and I was proud of completely nailing the rule of thirds composition on a moving subject. I love the energetic, vibrant colors! There is such excitement and energy in the image, due to color, splashing water, subject motion, camera shake, camera tilt, and the sloppy/funny/carefree bent legs. The technically imperfect photo which was intentionally styled to break the rules works beautifully with the technically imperfect technique on the diver's part. This image style would not work on a flawless olympic diver. It works because everything about it is carefree - breaking the rules. And what could be more carefree than a child splashing into the pool, head-first on a summer afternoon? The epitome of childhood fun!!! I LOVE this image! It is my passion jumping off the screen! Looking at it makes my heart leap with excitement and it is one of my personal favorites. :) And yes, you are correct that it looks not so photographic, which to me, makes it ART! I love that it is art! :D

Perhaps you can now comprehend my appreciation of the image and you might give it a second look with a new eye. :)

Thanks again! ~ Lonnit

You've captured the movement well, and the tilt adds a dynamic to it. I'm not sure what the processing is here, looks like a type of watercolour filter type effect, and it leaves it not looking like a photograph. Processing of course is all a matter of one's taste, and in this instance its not really for me this time. Good to have an entry from you.

Fun summer shot Lonnit- good to see you posting. The tilt and splashy color works fine here, wishing for just a tiny bit more subject in focus though I do see an unmentionable area is sharp ;-)
