What Fire Does

Holyoke, Massachusetts

This 100+ year old factory building in a neighboring city burned down while I was out of town. I drove by today to find a few walls still standing, twisted pieces of machinery, and piles of rubble. One section was still smoldering more than a week later.

You know, I was surprised that the walls were not charred and blackened. I guess that either the fire was so hot that it burned the soot off and/or the firemen put so much water on it that they washed the soot away. It really does look like a ruin that's been there for a long time, but the smell tells you that it's recent.

So quickly it looks like a ruin that has been that way for years. It's always sad to see something so established and full of character go. Well shot Mary Anne.

What a shame - looks like it was an interesting old building. :-( CJ

Nice shot of a historical remnant. Sad story though.
