Vintage Farm Steam Tractor
Waiting to get up to steam......
This vintage steam tractor (circa early 1900s) was still in use when I took this photo. The operator, standing in the back, has already fired up the boiler and is waiting for it to get up to steam. It takes about an hour and a half to get steam up. You can see the flywheel rotating, and I could hear the quiet sound of something chugging away as I snapped this pic. The tractor only travels four or five miles an hour and is used for land clearing and plowing along with towing various farming equipment, such as thrashing machines and barn wagons used for the collection and spreading of manure in the fields. Taken in the heart of Amish country, Geauga County, NE Ohio.
