Hey that's cool Angio- glad to bring back fond memories for you. I have to say though, I thought it was windy when I shot this image, but I'm looking out to the same spot as I write this and the wind is really howling. There is a winter storm watch in the passes for tonight- crazy! Thanks for your comment :-)

Brent - your Seattle and Victoria pics bring back fond memories - we lived 6 years in Kirkland. On a sunny day, there is not prettier place to live - I just wished we had more sunny days:-) The many microbrew options makes for some nice nights out! - I can almost see my old hospital - just north of 520!

Well if you ever make it to Seattle I'd be happy to tilt a pint or three with you as well Aam :-)

Add me with Rod on wanting to visit Seattle (and Oregon too). The sad part, I didn't visit when I was studying in Socal. The even sadder part, I didn't attend a 49ers game either. I want to kick myself (not the bucket) for that :)

Do make it to Seattle before you kick the bucket Rod- we can shire a pint or three then. And I go to a pub that serves Imperial pints rather than the puny Yankee ones ;-)
The extender works well for me on the 70-200. Focus seems just as snappy with it on and sharpness seems fine too. The only disadvantage I notice is the loss of one stop using it.

I must see Seattle before I kick the bucket. Does the 1.4 thingy work well wiv the 70-200 Brent? I was wondering wot hints to drop to me missus for me birthday next month. Close up lens or the 1.4 extender.

Thanks Charlie, Jonas, and Rod. It was just a practice Jonas. Yep, there is a building off to the left that would have obstructed the view Rod. It was the golden evening light I stepped out to capture with maybe one of the powerful tug boats that often comes by. I spied this happening before walking up the street to a park with a more unobstructed panoramic view. The nice light was gone by the time I made it to the park, maybe some other night. This is a slightly magnified view of what I see from my place of course. If I hadn't used the 1.4X attachment the real world simulation would have been more accurate I think.
The body of water you see is Elliot Bay with downtown Seattle and the tall buildings just to the left. The ferrie in the foreground runs between downtown and Bainbridge Island. The land in the distance is West Seattle which is somewhat of a peninsula that runs to a point off to the right.

Great view to wake up to Brent & I imagine some nice twinkling lights at night. I have a feeling this should have been shot more to the left, as the right third has no bearing on the picy. Was there something in the way on the left you had to miss ?..........Or did you just stuff up:-)

I would also like to have a view like this from my apartment!

Is it a practise..?
Charlie Beck06-Jun-2008 18:26
I knew this was yours, as soon as I saw the thumbnail. Well done, as usual.
ctfchallenge06-Jun-2008 18:18
Thanks you guys :-) Yeah the view isn't bad- though many of my my neighbors have a much better one. The vantage point comes at a price though. I figure ever nice boat I watch passing by costs me about fifty cents for the privilege ;-)

Lots of different power displayed Brent: boat, water, electrical - I even see a factory or two in the background! Good one and a great view to have from your flat! :-) CJ

Perfect that the water is spraying in the same direction the shadows are falling in the background. It adds to the composition. And in that background I like how you captured some haze which is something I struggle to do. -COAmature

Waw. You are lucky to have a scene like that from your house/flat.
ctfchallenge06-Jun-2008 15:59
Thanks Aam :-) This is a fairly typical scene outside the front window of my flat (with a few power lines too unfortunately). It's nice to have this stuff to look at instead of my face in the mirror when I brush my teeth ;-)
