These things do not look like birds OR flowers to me and they get so much underserved hype that I usually choose to ignore them. To me, they're silly looking. But I like how you gave yours the "wild" look. Nicely done. Penny STreet

This gaudy flower trying doing a bad imitation of a bird has always been for me the worst floral subject on earth. It is an absurdly contrasty mix of extremes of every color parameter (hue, saturation, and brightness) in impossible combinations - a perfect subject for this challenge. Ugly stuff that seems to fit well only in an equally incoherent background such as the weed patch captured here... and so much more manly than "Flower". Good work Rod. -tv

Thanks Carole, Kiki, Brent & Tom:-) These seem to grow in lots of places around here & at times can get a bit scruffy looking. The legs improving daily Tom, thanks:-) Don't tell the girls its getting better as I enjoy being looked after:-)

Fascinating flowers. Saw them first time on Tenerife (Canary Islands)

Nice use of backlighting on this high-contrast beauty.
Rod, hope you're mending well.

I had these in my garden last place I lived in S. CA (Seal Beach) too CJ. I loved the look of them but sometimes the "flock" would take over the sidewalk and have to be cut back. I don't think I've seen any up here in Seattle outside of a greenhouse. Do you see a lot of these in the wild there Rod? They're kind of wild looking- seems like a downunder native plant to me :-)

I love those flowers and they sure are bright! :-) I used to have some when we lived in S. California but it's too cold up here for them. They do look like birds don't they! CJ
